Turi the captain of Aotea came around 80 years before Tainui as he came to Aotearoa with the direction of Kupe who told him to always keep the setting sun to the back of his canoe.
as kupe came a generation or two before Turi,  Scientist have tried this and it would have meant that if he left Tahiti where its where Tainui say that we came from then he would have missed Aotearoa altogether and probably ended up in Australia, But Aotea canoe have always given thanks to Kupe for leading them here to NZ so they are lucky to be here if they followed his directions.
